Richard W. Wenger, CPA - Retired

Richard W. Wenger, served as tax partner and has been a CPA since 1970. Mr. Wenger is a graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. He worked for the big eight firm of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell and established the Newport Beach office for the national firm of Main Lafrentz in 1975. He also served as Finance Manager of Sealy Mattress Company in Denver, Colorado. As a public speaker, Mr. Wenger has lectured in the areas of real estate taxation and understanding tax returns for corporations, partnerships and individuals. Mr. Wenger was also a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. Rich is now enjoying his well-earned retirement spending time with family and friends, volunteering where needed with his church community, and riding his road bike just "whenever he feels like it". Rich still makes his presence known and felt at our office. His legacy lives on around here !

Mark E. Bauer, CPA, Principal

Mark E. Bauer serves as the managing partner and has been a shareholder since 1982. Mr. Bauer is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting and taxation and has experience in both public accounting and private industry as a corporate controller. Mark has focused his career goals in the areas of accounting and taxation planning/compliance for closely-held companies, and in estate and trust planning. He has been involved in such industries as manufacturing, construction/development, professional service, real estate, high technology, import/export, agriculture and non-profit. Mark served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of San Juan Capistrano for 30 years and has recently handled over that mantle to Cindy Russell - see below. He enjoys his "gym time" daily, and still gets out to run, bike ride, and swim.

Brian L. Jarvis, CPA, MBA, Principal

Brian L. Jarvis services as principal and started with the firm in the winter of 2021. Brian holds a graduate degree in finance and an undergraduate degree in accounting; both earned at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. Brian has extensive experience in both public accounting and private industry as a controller and chief financial officer. Brian's career has focused on closely held companies, taxation, accounting, and planning for family groups, and entity and transaction structuring. He has been involved in such industries as oil and gas, commercial real estate, ranching, professional services, and non-profit. Brian is an avid snow skier and family man.

Tammy Schmitz, Senior Accountant

Tammy has been on staff since July 1981. She specializes in the area of corporate tax, accounting, payroll, sales tax, and QuickBooks consulting. Ms. Schmitz is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. She is also versed in Ultra Tax, AppFolio and Rent Manager, and Accountant's World payroll software. Tammy has experience with medical and professional, retail fast food, commercial real estate, wholesale import, manufacturing, and non-profit. She is proficient in both personal and corporate taxation. Tammy loves her "O-Dark 30" gym time and has a multitude of athletic event metals. Says Tam.... it's all about the bling....

Danielle Nelson, Staff Accountant

Danielle has been on staff since 2019, and previously provided her service to our firm as an independent bookkeeper. She has vast experience with Quickbooks desktop and online, Quicken, Sage, AppFolio and Rent Manager, Ultra Tax, and a variety of payroll platforms. Her client experience includes property management, manufacturing, medical/professional, interior design, fashion, and trust accounting. She is experienced in both personal and corporate taxation. Danielle enjoys supporting her teenage daughter's desire to play D1 collegiate softball and watching her son play baseball and flag football.

Cindy Russell, Staff Accountant

Cindy Russell is a graduate of Whittier College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. She has extensive experience specializing in municipal public accounting. She has over 35 years in municipal finance, accounting, and administration working for cities in Orange County overseeing all finance/accounting functions, Information Technology, and Human Resources and other municipal services. Cindy served the community of San Juan Capistrano for 30 years, initially as Accounting Manager and Administrative Services Director, and moving into Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer. She also was the appointed City Treasurer during most of this time. She served an additional 6 years for the City of Brea, as their Administrative Services Director. Cindy currently serves as Treasurer of the San Juan Capistrano Rotary Club.

Debbie DeRose, Office Manager

Debbie joined our firm in 2013. She is in charge of making our office run smoothly for our clients and staff. Her functions include scheduling, billing, collection, internal accounting, and office administration. Debbie sets the tone for what we strive to be a pleasant and professional overall experience at Wenger and Bauer CPA's. She enjoys her RV family camping and her church family.
